Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo says Igbos in the South-East believe in a united Nigeria, urging the federal parliament to create a sixth state in the region.

There have been violent secessionist agitations across the south-eastern region amidst the government’s claim that IPOB and ESN are the brains behind the killing of security operatives and destruction of public facilities, including prisons, police stations, and INEC offices.

”Ndiigbo will begin to see equity in action when an amended constitution births a sixth state in the South-East,” he reasoned.

Mr Uzodimma further noted, “The Igbo people seek a constitutional guarantee of their inalienable rights as citizens. A sixth state will go a long way in assuaging the acclaimed marginalisation.”

The Imo governor made the call while delivering an address at the South-East zonal public hearing of the House of Representatives on the review of the Nigerian Constitution.

“I call on all Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity presented by the public hearing to present what they think is necessary for our constitution to be called the people’s constitution,” he said.

He commended the committee for holding the hearing, despite prevalent insecurity in Imo.

The chairman of the review committee, Ahmed Wase, commended the governor for tackling the state’s insecurity.
